Unruly Behavior

I received several calls from Distinct Advantage from 727-683-1138 today.

Seems that they got my information from a 'partner' from whom I had made a purchase by check. I was entitled to Free Gas Vouchers and other gifts, just by verifying my checking information.

Ok, first problem with this, I don't use checks.

So I looked up Distinct Advantage Gas Voucher on Google.

There is page after page warning that this is a Scam and a Ripp-Off.

So I asked the girl, why does Google have thousands of results saying you are a scam or a rip-off?

She assured me that they were not a scam or rip-off. But she was very flustered.

So I asked, "Who referred you to me?" She did this song and dance about a valued retailer, and it could have been anything I bought, from a candy bar to a shirt.

So, I asked, "Are you going to answer my question, or is that not possible?" She asked what my question was, and I again asked, "Who referred you to me?"

She said she could not say.

So I asked, "You have thousands of Google references as being a scam, you can't tell me who referred you, and you want my bank information? Can you see why I know you are trying to rip me off?"

"What would you like me to do sir?" She asked.

I told her to remove me from their call list and never call me again. She gave me some song and dance about the company and thier website.

Wonder if they will call back...

Ok, this monring on the way to the office I stopped at Exxon to get gas, coffee and some cookies. Normal thing for me a couple of mornings each week.

Today was not normal, my Speedpass would not work, not outside at the pumps, not inside at the register. So I paid with a credit card and drove on in to work.

Called Speedpass when I got to work, nothing wrong on their end, they can transfer me to Exxon customer service.

Get on the phone with Exxon, somehow my July payment was $14.00 short. Guess I typoed on my Electronic Bill Pay. So, without any warning, or adding the total to my August bill, they cut off my account.

Ok, I can see if I was way behind. I could see if I completely missed a payment. I could see if I was a new customer. But I've been a customer there for over five years. I've never missed a payment. And they didn't even send me a letter saying, "Hey, you shorted us $14.00, pay up or else." What a bunch of assholes.

Our Exxon bill runs $200-$400 per month. Thats $3000-$5000 per year.

Exxon made $10.4 Billion Dollars last Quarter. That is: $10,400,000,000,000.00 in profit for three months. That is about 743 Million times $14.00.

So they cut me off for 1/743,000,000 of their quarterly profit. Yeah, way to make your customers satisfied.

Ok, today for lunch, we made the trek to Whataburger and I tried the, "For a limited time only", "BBQ Cheddar Burger".

Ok, first off, this thing tastes much better than it looks. Second, I had to add Jalapenos to the thing, or it just would have been wrong.

So, here is the blueprint: Bun, 2 quarter pound meat patties, shredded cheddar cheese, onions, pickles, BBQ sauce and Jalapenos. I don't have, and don't want to know the nutritional info on this burger.

The burger is setup so that the cheese is sandwiched and melted between the patties, and it is very good cheddar, so the taste there is excellent. The BBQ sauce is very sweet and messy, I think I went through about five napkins for lunch.

Overall, I'd say don't miss this burger before it is gone.

My only complaint is that all the folks working there had on these cool, orange T-shirts for the burger. I asked if they had any extra to sell, and they said no, actually the manager overheard me ask and said they were all out, like they would have gotten me one if they had it to spare. Guess I'm off to eBay now to find one.

Ok, here is the view from my office this afternoon. Not sure what they are doing, but it is very entertaining. Glad we found those binoculars when cleaning up the office a couple of weeks ago. Even more glad I've started carrying my camera everywhere.

Ok, this happens at least once a week, might have even blogged about it before...

I have a lot of very well educated, well to do customers.

They call because their internet is down. First step is to have them reset power on their modem and router.

They cannot correctly identify the power connector. Reactions to my instructions of "Turn off the Modem and Router and wait ten seconds and turn them back on," are usually:

1. I can't find the power connections.
2. How do I do that?
3. This Modem / Router does not have a power connection.
4. I unplugged the power, but the Modem / Router did not turn off.
5. If I unplug the Modem / Router won't my computer loose power?

I don't know how these folks function. Nearly everything you buy today comes with some sort of power adapter, so it's not like this should be an unfamiler thing. And what do you say to someone that insists that their electronic device functions magically without being connected to a power source?

I love my job!
