They Are Not Citizens

Ok, here is a story where the Police Cheif, as well as several officers explain, why the Houston Police Department, CHOOSES NOT TO ENFORCE SOME LAWS. They say that it makes interacting with citizens easier if they do not question their "immigration status".

A little quote from the story:
"HPD Captain Bruce Williams explained, 'If the citizen can come to us and know that we're going to take the information that they give us without looking into their status as an immigrant, then they're more free to come to us and talk about crime issues.'"

Ok, here is the real problem with this: If they are Illegal Immigrants, they are not citizens, they are residents, and ones that are breaking the law.

As a taxpayer, legally here, it is your job as a police officer to, "Protect and Serve" me, it says so on your police cars. I'm not being served by letting people openly break the law.

Please do not refer to "illegal residents" as citizens. They are not. Citizens have the right to vote, pay taxes, and ultimately for the services provided by the government. If we fail to kick folks out who are not legally supposed to be here, it is sending the wrong message.
