I blew up the server, real good...

So, you want a job in IT? Ready for things to self destruct right in front of your face? Ready to give up your life for data recovery?

10 AM this morning, C: partition of a W2K DC was down to 118MB free. Thought to myself, increase the partition size, fix some network problems. It's easy. You've done it dozens of tiems.

11:00 AM Customer buys Acronis disk partition software. I repartiton and reboot. Drives resize in service window, server reboots, all data on C: vanishes.

11:30 AM begin panic.

Calls to Dell, Veritas, Tech Data, Office, Coworkers all yield no help.

Finally open up a support incident with Veritas for $89.00 US.

It is now 7:30 PM and I think I just got the data and system state restored from last night's backup. Not going home tongiht. Spending the night at the Huntsville, TX La Quinta. Hope they've added internet access. Nothing else to do in Huntsville on a Tuesday night.

Wohoo! Just logged into the server, in the domain!

User is logging and testing SNA connectivity. SNA works! (Amazing what will excite a geek.)

Take it from me, friends don't let friends work in IT. Become something with your life that can't be exported to Bangladesh, like a truck driver or Wal-Mart greeter.
